The film adaptation of Blizzard Entertainment’s Warcraft license will be moving forward with Duncan Jones in the director’s seat, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Jones previously directed the Jake Gyllenhaal-fronted Source Code, as well as the 2009 award-winning independent film Moon, starring Sam Rockwell.
Legendary Pictures, the studio behind Batman Begins and Man of Steel, acquired the rights to develop a film based on the Warcraft universe in partnership with Blizzard in 2006. It was announced in 2009 that Evil Dead and Spiderman director Sam Raimi would head up the project, but he quietly exited the role to direct Oz: The Great and Powerful with James Franco. The film has been delayed consistently throughout its development, and even with a new director signed it remains a question whether it will ever be finished.
Despite this uncertainty, Warcraft does have quite the team behind it. It is being produced by Thomas Tull and Jon Jashni from Legendary and Atlas Entertainment’s Charles Roven and Alex Gartner. Roven previously worked on The Dark Knight Rises. Blizzard’s Chris Metzen will also produce.
Warcraft is set to begin filming in 2015.
