It looks as though Warner Bros. is preparing to follow up their hugely successful Batman: Arkham Asylum and Arkham City titles with a third installment in the critically acclaimed series. The publisher registered more than a dozen domain names on January 10, all of them related to the video game adaptation of the Dark Knight mythos that developer Rocksteady began in 2009.

Both Warner Bros. and Rocksteady have been quiet about the future of the series since the last bit of DLC dropped in May of last year. Rumors began circulating in July that Rocksteady’s third Batman game would abandon the gritty atmosphere of the first two titles in favor of the more lighthearted Silver Age setting. These rumors were never acknowledged, though many have taken the departure of writer Paul Dini as confirmation that there will be a dramatic shift in tone.
